The summer months are almost here and we couldn’t be more excited! Here’s some recommendations to make you your best summer self.

  1. WEAR SUNSCREEN

Even though you may desire a nice bronze glow, it is extremely important to protect your skin from harmful UV rays.  A very large percentage of premature aging is due to sun exposure. Always remember to apply 1 ounce a (shot-glass full) of your favorite sunscreen to your entire body after sweating or swimming, or every 90 minutes.   It is wise to reapply your sun protection every 2-3 hours. We recommend using a sunscreen with a hydrating base. Our office recommends Elta MD for all of your sun protection needs. Don’t forget spots like the ears, top of the feet and back of the neck, which most often are the areas to burn.

  1. DON’T FORGET YOUR LIPS AND SCALP

When it comes to applying sunscreen on your face and body, you’re probably already a semi-pro. But what about those forgotten areas like your lips and scalp? If you’ve ever had a scalp burn, we know you will want to avoid a re-occurrence at all costs. For the scalp, we love the easy application of a powder or spray sunscreen. If you are in need of something specifically designed for those areas, we can help you in any of our office locations or even on our easy to use E-store. We also recommend wearing a wide brim hat when exposed to the sun and using an umbrella when possible to block some UV rays.

    1. KEEP EYE CREAM IN THE FRIDGE

There is nothing more refreshing than a cooling eye cream straight from your refrigerator. You can also try cooling your facial moisturizer and body lotion. Using an eye cream that contains caffeine, can significantly reduce puffiness (which can come in handy after those long summer nights!). When applying your eye cream, treat yourself to a light massage around the eye to really work the product into the skin.

  1. DON’T SCRATCH BUG BITES

Often the price that we pay for connecting with Mother Nature herself is the souvenir of itchy bug bites. We know it’s tempting, but scratching makes bug bites worse and can even cause scarring or post inflammatory pigmentation.  Instead, try keeping an anti-itch cream in your bag for any surprise insect attacks. You can also try using a cold compress or ice pack to take away the initial sting, or itch, of an insect bite.
